Thread Sewing Means Durability for Generations

Thread sewing is considered the supreme discipline in print finishing. However, production is demanding and therefore places correspondingly high requirements on the machines. With Muller Martini's Ventura family you are on the safe side.

Anyone who wants to produce a book block these days basically has two options: perfect binding or thread sewing. Adhesive binding is faster and less expensive. Thread sewing, as a guarantor for beautiful, long-lasting hardcover products of the best quality that can be used over and over again for many years (for example, for school books, bibles, qur’ans, illustrated books, cookbooks, children's books), is more time-consuming, but ensures higher-quality books – for three reasons.
  • First, the book block is more stable and stronger due to the sewing of the individual  signatures.
  • Second, the book block has better opening behavior – even with the most intensive use, no pages can come loose because  the signatures are sewn and then glued together.
  • Thirdly, layflat binding is possible by means of a free spine – in other words: the spine is not glued to the cover.

The high demands...
Thread sewing is complex and places correspondingly high demands on the machines. They must be able to be changed over quickly (keyword: Motion Control technology in Muller Martini models) and have a high net output (keyword: production without blind stitches – also a specialty of Muller Martini). Because it is becoming increasingly difficult for bookbinderies to find qualified personnel, clear assistance systems must enable easy operation. And after thread sewing, a spine nipping machine – the VFN 700 spine nipping press from Muller Martini, which can be used as a supplementary system, is ideal for this – and ensures the best possible book block shape in order to optimize downstream processes.

...meets the Ventura family
The Ventura MC 160 and the Ventura MC 200 meet all these requirements. The two conventional book sewing machines from Muller Martini offer you numerous advantages:
► firmly sewn book block – every bookbinder dreams of this! – at the touch of a button thanks to the servo-controlled thread tension control "on the fly"
► standard and staggered stitch
► active thread cutting system
► sheet opening and sequence control from inside via Asir 3 or MM Vision
► thread welding (elimination of the blind stitch and for shortest thread ends of up to 6 mm)
► free positioning of smaller signatures as basic format in the book block (TWE¦ƎN® option

Expansion to a connect system
The blowing air system eliminates the conventional mechanical thread sliders. Switching between standard and staggered stitch is extremely simple and fast at the touch of a button. Mechanical wear is therefore significantly reduced, while process reliability is increased.

The modular concept of the two Ventura MC models makes it possible, in the event of future challenges, to easily expand the system by means of a gathering machine in conjunction with other book sewing machines to form a Connect system – as has been done, for example, by the two Muller Martini customers Grafotisak in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Livonia Print in Riga.

Also available as a digital version
The Ventura MC is also available in a digital version – as the perfect introduction to thread sewing for digitally printed products. This is because digitally printed books and brochures in short (or long) runs are also becoming increasingly popular in the field of thread sewing. That's why a machine is needed that combines digital printing – whether sheetfed or rollfed – with proven bookbinding expertise. The Ventura MC Digital is the ideal solution. It features proven motion control technology with an upstream buckle folding unit and plow folder. This is a new benchmark in terms of performance, flexibility and sewing quality.
